Q: Watercraft permits?

A: State Registration. Current understanding is that even though Choctaw Lake is a private community the lake itself connects to state waterways both in and out, and as such is subject to OH regulations for registration of powered watercraft, sailboats, canoes and kayaks.

Paddleboards appear to be exempt. While it has not been enforced by ODNR it would be prudent to seek proper registration. The nearest and most convenient ODNR station for this purpose is:

Springfield Watercraft Office

1976 Buck Creek Lane, Springfield, OH 45502 • 937-323-1582

Choctaw Lake Requirements. All watercraft (boats, pontoons, sailboats, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, etc) shall be registered at the Choctaw Lake office each year and will be issued 2 stickers for that boating season for each watercraft. These stickers change colors each year for identification by the boat patrol. The stickers are free, but are only issued to CLPOA members that are in good standing (current on all CLPOA dues and assessments). The boat stickers are available beginning the first of April each year. Watercraft not bearing the current season stickers are subject to fines and removal from lake use.

NOTE: This annual requirement also applies to miscellaneous vehicles

(golf carts, ATV’s, and the like).

Q: Fishing license?

A: As with watercraft fishing on the water (from any type of boat, kayak, etc.) is subject to state regulations and is the responsibility of the property owner.

Q: Fishing limits?

A: Daily catch limits of fish are as follows:

Large/Small Mouth Bass: Catch & release only Crappies: No minimum length, limit 10 per resident; guests are restricted to catch & release

Wipers: Catch & release only

Carp: No minimum length or limit; carp are an invasive species harmful to our lake water quality, and the habitat of the fish we desire; PLEASE DO NOT RELEASE CARP BACK INTO THE LAKE.

For all other types of fish caught, practice good judgment in conserving this valuable natural resource.

Q: Vehicle Registration and Stickers?

A: It is requested that all vehicles, except for special circumstances, be registered and that lake office and will be issued a Choctaw Lake sticker to be affixed to the left side of the back window. This aids the lake patrol in identifying non-lake residents as needed when in our community, and also at our beach which is private and for Choctaw Lake community members (and guests) only. It also aids our residents in identifying Choctaw Lake neighbors when out on the roadways outside our community should they possibly be in need of assistance. The stickers have a 3-year cycle and change color each cycle. The stickers are free and obtained at the CLPOA office.

Q: Building permits?

A: Short answer on remodels permits are required for any roofing or siding work on the home, or any additions. Permits and/or approvals also required for any permanent things like a pergola that requires footings. New construction and any additions require permits, and must be approved by the Property Manager and the Building Committee. Complete details are spelled out in the CLPOA Building Code available on the CLPOA governing documents page. You should always consult with the CLPOA office and Property Manager before proceeding with any project on the outside of your current structure or anywhere on your property to help insure what you are planning is in compliance with all CLPOA requirements, and especially before you enter into any contracts with building contractors, landscapers, etc.
